2004 Crashes
Page 1 2 3
Grade of a problem

Tom has answered that question of what happens when a freight train crashes into a boxcar on a bridge at over 80 MPH while going down a grade.

8/10 9/5/04

Over S&C

Here is the crash of a Wisconsin Central freight taking to the air at over 240 MPH on the S&C route from Tom.

6/10 9/5/04

Radio ga ga

Tom sent in this big crash "Here is another crash involving a collision between two CPR freight trains. I crashed into another train stopped on a bridge at 301 MPH and sent the trains, including 24 "radioactive" containers all over the area, turning the region of Kicking Horse Pass between Lake Louise and Stephan into "Ground Zero"! Enjoy!"

8/10 9/5/04

High Speed Head On

"This crash involves a CP train colliding head on with another train while travelling at 575 MPH. The impact sent the trains across the landscape." At least the camera kept up with the crash Tom!

10/10 04/05/04

Jet Train

This shot from Fam Hodiamont shows a jet train being tested at 840kmh! Interesting to see what happens during the actual test run.

5/10 04/05/04

Raining Cars

This crash from JarOfWar shows what happens after people create flying crashes.

6/10 04/05/04

Mustard Splat

This crash from JarOfWar has created one big yellow mess with rail repair trains.

8/10 04/05/04

Air caboose

I crashed a Central Vermont train into a bufferstop at 100 MPH and the crash ejected a caboose from the middle of the train! Enjoy. Cheers Tom!

7/10 04/05/04

Grain hit

Tom sent this crash in "I crashed a BN freight into a grain elevator at 190 MPH with this as the result. And note the freight car going vertical!". Good work!

8/10 04/05/04

Amtrak vs MARC

This crash from Tom proves again what happens when a MARC commuter train smashes into a Amtrak.

9/10 04/05/04

Flying BR

Tom sent in this crash of a super charged British Rail loco, I believe its a Class 56. The coaches became uncoupled so Tom could only do one thing, reverse at a few hundred miles per hour back into them creating this flying derail/crash.

9/10 04/05/04

CGW S&C

Too many abbreviations, but this crash from Tom is stunning. This crash was the result of one of Tom's locos going at "a few hundred miles per hour" and end up with a very impressive result.

10/10 28/04/04

Railtour to a wood

This crash from Tom is of a EWS railtour where the organisers have decided the passengers need a real close look at the environment around them so left two freight wagons for the train to crash into allowing the train to get close to the river and the wood.

8/10 28/04/04

Don't look now

This crash from Tom happend when a frieght train smashed into a grain elevator at 680mph, leaving the consist to bounce into the sky and the surrounding areas!

10/10 28/04/04

Starlight Dinner

This crash from Tom was caused due to a buffer stop getting in the way of a passenger train going at over 80mph. Inconsiderate things, buffer stops! Nice one.

8/10 23/04/04

The wonder of bridges

Tom sent in this massive derail of a commuter train after it crashed into some freight wagons on a bridge where below another train was going under.

9/10 23/04/04

Danger to danger

This crash from Tom shows a commuter train well off the tracks, and the resulting coaches were left hanging on to the landscape.

8/10 23/04/04

D&H Freight crash

These shots are from a train Tom was driving that went through a bufferstop at over 100mph causing a huge pile up of wagons and a crane.

9/10 23/04/04

KCS Crash

Tom crashed a KCS freight and the crash seemingly ripped the trucks off some of the freight cars. Nice resulting derail.

7/10 23/04/04

Tunnel Jam

This stunning derail comes from JarOfWar who manage to wreck a huge number of BNSF locos and wagons on the exit of a tunnel, great stuff!

10/10 16/4/04

Floating in a tunnel

JarOfWar sent in this derail in a tunnel that has resulted in the train floating into the roof of the tunnel.

6/10 16/4/04

Flying cars on a bridge

JarOfWar sent in this crash resulting in many wagons flying off a bridge in all directions. Quality stuff.

10/10 16/4/04

Two at a time

Here is a wreck I did, or should I say two wrecks. I was driving a VIA train at over 300 MPH when I went around a corner. Despite the fact I had "No derailments" on, a couple of coaches flew off the tracks and the first loco separated from the second. I then put the train in emergency and caused the portion of the train that didn't derail to slam into the back of me. Good work Tom!

9/10 16/4/04

Mass destruction

Here is a crash I just did. I crashed a very long VIA train into a factory at over 180 MPH. The crash send the coaches and 5 locos scattering left, right, and center as these two pics show. Big crash from Tom.

9/10 16/4/04

Settle to Carlisle via everywhere

Tom crashed a CP freight with 17 locomotives and 11 cars at about 230 MPH into a bufferstop on the S&C route. These pics show the result!

9/10 16/4/04

Tankers, freight and factories

Here are two crashes I did recently. The first crash is the result of a BR train running into two freight cars at 112 MPH and the other is the result of many CP locomotives crashing into a factory at 230 MPH. Cheers Tom!

8/10 16/4/04

Wood tour

This derail from Tom looks like it shows two Rail America engines taking the scenic wood tour. Deffinatly one to go for if you like trees, up close and personal!

8/10 8/04/04

Snow way

Tom sent in this crash of a VIA train crashing into a factory. I really don't think Tom likes the buildings in MSTS much!

7/10 8/04/04

Is that a bufferstop?

Tom sent in this: "I crashed a CP freight train with my supercharged steam loco in with the CP diesel through a bufferstop at 219 MPH"

7/10 8/04/04

225 time

"I crashed a CSX freight train travelling at 225 MPH headon into another freight at 225 MPH and these pics show the result." Cheers Tom.

9/10 8/04/04

Steam disaster

"I crashed a steam train into a bufferstop at over 330 MPH and send the train flying all over the place as these two pics show" Great stuff Tom.

10/10 4/4/04

River jumping

Tom has invented a new sport: "Here is the crash of a 77 car Rock Island freight train. I crashed it at 170 MPH through a bufferstop and over a river. These two pics are the result. "

8/10 4/4/04

Jumping for joy

"I crashed a commuter train into a bufferstop at over 90 MPH on the S&C route. When I derailed, the loco did a somersault and came to rest upright. The pic shows the loco in the middle of the somersault." Nice one Tom.

9/10 4/4/04

Planes trains and automobiles

Well nearly... IC Boy sent these in of a derailed car transporter and two flying trains. One the Virgin Pendolino and the other the GNER White Rose Eurostar. Quality.

9/10 4/4/04

Whats cooler than cool?

IC Boy sent in these crashes of the ICE train derailing and flying about. Well what else do you expect on this website?

9/10 4/4/04

Steamy derails

IC Boy decided to wreck a A1 and A4 class steam engine by simply running them off the line. Effective though.

8/10 4/4/04

Coal derail

IC Boy sent in these derails. Think this shows why trains need rails to make them work!

8/10 4/4/04

The building still stands

Tom has another go at a building this time with a big freight train slamming into it at just a couple of hundred below 1000mph. Made a big mess though!

8/10 29/03/04

Tender destruction

Tom sent in this crash: "A BNSF train crashing into 20+ tenders at over 960 MPH on a bridge." Flying debris everywhere, great!

9/10 29/03/04

Bashing in Britain

Tom branches out into this country as he demolishes the Flying Scotsman after it hit a factory at over 80mph.

9/10 29/03/04

IC Boy is back

Another quality crasher has returned to us with a couple of new crashes, one of a train of BR Class 50's going all over the place and another of a Deltic going airborne. Welcome back!

9/10 29/03/04

Rail America Crash

A good way to spend an evening, "I crashed a freight train into a building at over 270 MPH and this is the result. Enjoy." Another simple and effective crash from Tom

8/10 29/03/04

Commuter, Steam and hand

"I crashed a commuter train into a handcart and a steam train at 98 MPH while driving in push mode. Enjoy!" Another effective crash by Tom.

8/10 24/03/04

Cruisin caboose

JarOfWar sent in this odd derail with a caboose upside down, sliding along the track. Rather odd.

7/10 24/03/04

Bridge pile up

This is a very odd crash from JarOfWar because there are a lot of locos and wagons involved but they haven't exploded around the landscape. Great work.

10/10 24/03/04

Big Mess At The Valley

JarOfWar sent in this massive crash with wreckage going everywhere in this valley. Again I wouldnt want to be the person to clear it up!

9/10 24/03/04

Commuter train

This derailed commuter train from Tom was being pulled by a jet train, and I wonder why it derailed!

8/10 24/03/04

Flying jet

Tom sent this jet train crash in. The pics show the train flying into the air and then falling far into the distance.

7/10 24/03/04

BNSF Crash

Tom sent these results from a  BNSF train crashing into a bufferstop at over 450 MPH. Hate to have to clear that one up!

8/10 24/03/04

Uhh Oh

This crash from JarOfWar shows exactly what you don't want to be seeing as you drive a train, although I'm not quite sure what part of the train JOW is driving!?

10/10 22/03/04

To the building

This is an interesting crash because all the ones similar to this are the other way round and don't look like the train is falling off the building. Nice one JarOfWar.

9/10 22/03/04

Crowded platform

JarOfWar sent in this stunning crash which managed to fill an entire station!

10/10 22/03/04

Factory flying

"I crashed a BNSF freight with several tenders into a factory at about 600 MPH and sent the train flying in all directions. Enjoy." So simple Tom, but effective.

10/10 22/03/04

All over the Valley

This crash similar to the one below is also by JarOfWar but this time with much heavier locos, yet more or less the same result

9/10 22/03/04

Air Tenders

A massive crash sent in by JarOfWar with some serious flying tenders. Love it!

10/10 17/03/04

It's all gone A over T!

JarOfWar sent in another tunnel crash but this time the physics engine has managed to flip the entire loco over!

8/10 17/03/04

Bad parking

This shows the state of overcrowding on the American Freight network by JarOfWar. There simply is no room to put the locos but in the parking lot!

9/10 17/03/04

Explosion

Jarofwar sent in this stunning crash resembling a massive exploding flying train, even with flying trails!

10/10 17/03/04

Derailed

Here is a crash I just did. I uncoupled the locos and first car on a train and hit the brakes causing the rest of the train to run into the first section. However, the first car of the cut I had uncoupled derailed, but not the rest of the cars, and despite the first car in the cut being derailed, the rest of the cars kept going! Cheers Tom!

9/10 17/03/04

Unbreakable

It seems not matter what we throw at the buildings in MSTS they still stand strong. Tom sent this crash in of a freight train smashing into a building at over 270mph only to find the train bouncing backwards along the track.

8/10 14/03/04

Big clear up

Caleb Randolph sent in this huge chemical derail from a Dash 9. Don't want to be the people who have to clear that one up.

9/10 14/03/04

Telescoping

This crash from JarOfWar shows what happens when pressure becomes too much. Never knew a Dash9 could "pop" out.

7/10 14/03/04

Pile up

JarOfWar sent this crash in that takes the words "pile up" and really brings them to MSTS.

10/10 14/03/04

Speed testing

Here are my 2 screenshots of my speed testing UP train. First of all, I uncoupled the last 12 cars of the train which rolled to a stop. Next I uncoupled the first 2 locos and ran around a loop and crashed into the 3rd loco and first 5 cars at over 810 MPH and sent the lead locomotive hurtling in the air and down into the valley. Cheers Tom

8/10 14/3/04

Boat crash

Another from JAROFWAR that demonstrates how seriously we take crashing trains! A flying boat into a Dash9 with tankers. Quality!

9/10 9/3/04

Scratching my belly

Not so much of a crash from JAROFWAR but an odd example of just how far can a train turn.

6/10 9/3/04

Wrong way

I opened this email from JAROFWAR expecting to see a head on crash or something but no, this crash is of a train going the wrong way in a tunnel!

9/10 9/3/04

River Jumping

Tom sent this one in of a passenger train crashing into a bufferstop at over 100mph making the lead loco jump over the river and land on the opposite bank!

8/10 9/3/04

GM Crops

Tom sent in this crash of another chemical spill this time in on our very own countryside at 230+mph. Hate to be the one to clear this one up!

10/10 9/3/04

3 Trains

This is a crash I did myself and basically, a Intercity 125 smashed into the back of a slow moving Class 60. The 125 derailed all across the line with the end car pointing to the sky, but the Class 60 with its much heaver freight only suffered a derail. Rather good if I do say so myself!

10/10 3/3/04

Chemical Spill

Here is the result of crashing a CP freight train with many tank cars through a bufferstop at a very high rate of speed. Enjoy! (I also hope the people of that town can evacuate in time!) The joys of a simulation being a simulation and not reality!

8/10 3/3/04

Derailed

Tom also sent these crashes in one of a seriously derailed CN diesel and another of a VIA Passenger train colliding with a factory after going through a bufferstop.

7/10 27/2/04

River action

Tom sent in this crash of  a Norfolk and Western freight train in a river. However in this crash, something rather unique happened: One car remained on the tracks while the train ahead and behind it derailed.

8/10 27/2/04

Well tested

Matt H sent in this crash that he created whilst testing a graphics card out. I never knew a TGV flying away at 1200mph was a good way to test your frame rate, but its effective!

8/10 23/02/04

Now you see it, now you dont

I was playing around with the London to Brighton route and played chicken with a South Central 4VEP slam door on a viaduct with usual MSTS results as the train fell down to the ground through the viaduct. The second picture shows a well timed electrical spark from the 3rd Rail.

8/10 23/02/04

Re-Railing

I crashed this Freightliner Class 47 after miss reading a signal, but at least I had a re-railing tool van within the consist, but sadly I also had a Nuclear Flask Container as well!

7/10 23/02/04

Derailed

Tom sent in these shots with this information "The first occurred while driving in Japan. I was casually driving at over 120 MPH when I went around a curve. The first loco stayed on the tracks, but the rest of the train derailed on the curve, even though I had the "No derailments" option checked off. The second occurred when I went through a bufferstop at over 140 MPH. The train slid down the embankment into the river."

Simple really! Good work

8/10 23/02/04

The next stop will be... a wall!

Tom sent in this crash of a fright train going 200mph through a buffer stop into a new piece of technology being used to stop runaway trains... a building.

8/10 23/02/04

Hurtling, flying and sliding

Tom sent in this quick series of shots of various crashes. From flying locos after hitting a bufferstop at hight speed and sliding trains from another highspeed derail to a North Coast Explorer crashing and derailing in  the same town hit only a few days ago by my own testing Dash9, great minds crash alike!

8/10 18/2/04

Freight vs Passenger

Tom took a CN Freight train into a VIA passenger train head on at 130mph. The resulting pictures show a relatively even contest between to two locos, scattering wagons and coaches all around.

9/10 18/2/04

Alien invasion

Tom sent in some more pictures of the UFO for MSTS. From these pictures it looks like the world of trainsimming is being invaded!

9/10 18/2/04

VIA Crashes

Tom sent in this series of crashes after a VIA train went into a bufferstop at over 120MPH creating the resulting aftermath, including the loco getting stuck in one of the buildings!

9/10 12/2/04

Close encounters of the train kind

Tom Jankowski sent in this crash of the UFO for MSTS. This time it has been joined by another one, they are taking over!

7/10 12/2/04

Messing around

With MSTS working again, I decided to play about with some of my trains as you do. First crash is of 2xEWS Class 37's as I found the end of the line on the Eastbourne branch of the London-Brighton route and the second is a of a very odd error where I was driving a rail recovery train from inside a coach, again on the London to Brighton route.

8/10 12/2/04

Testing

After a reinstall with MSTS I ran a test train to see how if an earlier error would happen again, it didnt, but the only way to test it properly was to, CRASH! Excuse the very low graphic settings as I was running at default low settings!

8/10 12/2/04

Messy Bridge

JarOfWar sent in another crash this time making an entire bridge a danger area with BNSF hoppers.

9/10 11/2/04

Under done

JarOfWar sent in this crash of another hopper derailing in a tunnel and heading upwards as the camera stays below.

8/10 11/2/04

Troubling Tunnels

Thomas Seifert sent in this crash with another interesting angle in a tunnel. Apparently he wasn't aiming for the tunnel its just one of those things. I can't complain really!

8/10 5/2/04

Missing Wheels

JarOfWar sent in these shots of a BNSF diesel with an interesting wheel arangement and a shot of a tanker with a problem!

8/10 5/2/04

Boating

JarOfWar sent in this shot of a boat pulling a train. Worried? you should be!

7/10 5/2/04

Orien-tun-el

I took the Orient Express for a spin. I ended up spinning it just before a tunnel. The coaches soon scattered around it.

8/10 3/2/04

House call

I thought I would actually put a couple of my own crashes up. I took the Eurostar for a spin on the Tokyo route and found a lovely straight piece of track limited to 68mph. It was straight so I went at 120mph up a hill and didnt see the corner ahead, or even the house I smashed into!

8/10 1/02/04

Evilstar

I decided to see how this train handled backwards in Tokyo, flying along at 180mph I found a building in my path. The front engine (it was really the rear as I was going backwards) flew off and hit the building upside down before the original front engine derailed and smashed into it making the red lights look like evil eyes, only then to find its own building to crash into. The coaches survived and rolled on down the track at 170mph, unsure what happened to them.

9/10 1/02/04

Super 37's

This series of crashes comes from PT showing off a super charged Class 37. These crashes were done at 600mph!

9/10 1/02/04

Is it a bird? Not its Super 37!

PT Sent in this great crash of a supercharged Class 37 flying horizontally across the horizon at about 600mph! Nice

8/10 1/02/04

Easy derail?

Ever wonder why the trains come off the tracks so easy at times, JarOfWar proved another reason why!

5/10 1/02/04

Steamy crash

JarOfWar sent in this crash where two Scotsman trains have collided head-on in a station.

9/10 1/02/04

Volcano!

This crash from JarOfWar shows a great crash inside a tunnel, but the rest of the train has exploded through the mountainside!

10/10 1/02/04

Where did that come from?

This shot shows an apparent random wagon flying through the air, from JarOfWar.

8/10 1/02/04

Upside down

Another from JarOfWar showing an upsidedown accident from the cab view!

9/10 1/02/04

Ripped

JarOfWar sent in this crash where he ripped the trucks off into the wall of a tunnel.

7/10 1/02/04

Amroad

"Here are two pics from a crash I made about a week ago. I was attempting to recreate the train crash at the end of the movie "Silver Streak" starring Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. I uncoupled the locos and first three coaches (as Gene Wilder's character did in the movie). But I had forgotten to throw a key switch and instead of crashing at the end of a dead end siding, the train kept going down the main line. I thought "Heck with it", and uncoupled the first loco from the rest of the shortened train and then hit the brakes causing the 2nd loco and first three cars to crash into it. But then, the last 5 coaches (that I had uncoupled earlier) hadn't stopped yet and ran right into the wreck! Enjoy!.."

9/10 30/1/04

Stand clear of the train on platform 1

Mark sent in this crash showing just why passengers should never stand too close to the edge of a platform

8/10 30/1/04

On the Bridge

JarOfWar sent in this crash showing how after many attempts trains can land on bridges!

9/10 30/1/04

Now you see it, now you dont

This shot from JarOfWar shows the new BNSF hovering train, for those routes where the track hides itself.

9/10 30/1/04

Share the Tender-ness

JarOfWar sent in this image of another interesting consist, this time completely of Scotsman Tenders. Feel sorry for the staff coupling them all up!

6/10 30/1/04

Its Trainsim but not as you know it

Tom sent in another pic of the UFO, loving the British Rail logo on the side. Interesting crash.

8/10 30/1/04

Take cover

Tom sent in this crash of a freight train crashing at 200mph and taking out an entire town, well most of it anyway!

9/10 30/1/04

UFO

Tom sent in these shots of the UFO you can download for MSTS "One pic is of the UFO flying away. The other is of it flying towards some skyscrapers (which it flew over, not through!)."

7/10 20/1/04

Steam = Fire + Water. Not a river!

Mark Pompeo sent in these two shots of his first attempt at crashing a steam train. Think I can safely say that these are a good start.

9/10 20/1/04

GO'ing down, down down

Jason sent this crash in via Tom. He drove a GO train up the Field Hill on KHP version 1 and then rolled down with gravity. He reached speeds as high as 85 MPH and derailed at a speed of 76 MPH. Well its an original crash!

7/10 20/1/04

Flying in a winter wonderland

I crashed a BNSF train consisting of 3 supercharged Dash 9's, 2 un-powered GP38's and three cabooses into about 20 or so tenders at over 800 MPH and these three pics are the result. Enjoy! Well done Tom!

10/10 20/1/04

The final resting place

These two shots show what happens when trains have finished crashing and end up in their final resting place. "Jarofwar" our discrete new crasher sent these in.

9/10 20/1/04

Hole in the tunnel

We have seen many times the fun that can be had with tunnels but this is a new one, a hole in the bottom of the tunnel!

9/10 20/1/04

Ready to launch

Mr anon again sent in another crash this time of a loco that was disconnected, flipped up and ended up looking like this.

9/10 20/1/04

MS Boatsim?

Our unnamed crasher sent in these two shots of an interesting add-on for MSTS. Apparently this was a bit unexpected! Yes I think I can safely say we would all be surprised to see that on the tracks!

8/10 20/1/04

Blink and you will miss it

Thomas Seifert sent in this crash after seeing the end of the line a bit too late!

8/10 14/1/04

Runaway catch-up

I attempted to recreate a crash I read about in an old issue of TRAINS Magazine where a Santa Fe passenger train crashed into 20 boxcars that ran away from a siding. In Train-sim, When I hit the boxcars, the engines and first few cars had come out of a tunnel. Cars that hadn't entered the tunnel became uncoupled and went above the tunnel itself! Great work yet again Tom.

9/10 14/1/04

Its dark and we wearing fairy lights

Mark sent us in his latest crash that isn't of the whole holiday train but just the loco. Maybe need all those lights to find the rest of the train buried in the back!

7/10 14/1/04

The tenderness of crashing

Another sent in with no name, but this time a massive crash with the Flying Scotsman tenders! Like it

10/10 14/1/04

UFO?

Our anonymous crasher sent this one in of a train crashing so hard it went airborne big time.

8/10 14/1/04

Why do they always derail?

This shot shows why so many of you find it easy to crash, hexagonal wheels!

5/10 14/1/04

Attack of the killer green car

An anonymous crasher sent in this crash of a Dash9 that derailed in a tunnel with this result

8/10 14/1/04

Strange Tunnel

Thomas Seifert sent in this crash series proving how buggy MSTS is in tunnels...

"This crash happened on the Semmering-Route (Austria) by Simrudi, a fantastic Freeware-RouteBuilder, with an train called "Wiesel" in on of the tunnels. The pictures show in row the head of the train entering the tunnel, second is the interior of the "Steuerwagen" and the third is the Steuerwagen from behind. After the last picture the MSTS collapsed."

Lets hope they dont fix this ammusing error in MSTS2. Nice work Thomas!

9/10 7/1/04

Steaming pile of freight

I crashed a freight train into a steam train and as you can see in the pics, the steam train came out on top. Enjoy.

Good work from Tom!

9/10 7/1/04

Crashed in Holland

Eb created a crash with 3 locs and 15 mstsgg oil tanks. They crashed near Rotterdam. Effective crash with some free advertising! Nice

8/10 7/1/04

She'll be coming round the mountain

"I crashed a train with many tank cars and 5 supercharged locomotives. I went through a bufferstop, and sent the train flying off a mountain." Great stuff from Tom.

9/10 1/1/04

Steam train Crash

"I crashed a train led by a steam engine, 2 diesels (including a supercharged loco). It was towing some freight cars and 6 New York subway cars. Two of the subway cars and a flat car ended up in the river (the flat car completely sank, honest!)"

9/10 1/1/04

River run

I crashed a train at over 300 MPH through a buffer stop and another train and went hurtling over a river. Again great stuff from Tom.

8/10 1/1/04
